International Trade Club - Brilliant Breakfast

The International Trade Club Breakfast meeting offered new and experienced traders, the chance to expand and update their knowledge, benefit from a wide range of informative presentations and enjoy a fabulous breakfast.

Professor Fiona Smith is Professor of International Economic Law at the University of Warwick’s School of Law. She is an expert on international trade law under the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and has a specialist interest in international agricultural trade. She has published widely on international trade. She has spoken about her research to public and private sector audiences in the USA, Europe and the Far East.
Fiona gave evidence about the implications of the WTO for BREXIT and UK Trade Policy to the House of Commons International Trade Committee in December 2016 and to the Welsh Assembly in November 2016. Currently, she is Special Adviser to the inquiry on BREXIT and Agriculture by the House of Lords EU Sub-Committee on Energy and the Environment. She was an invited expert for the European Commission, [DG DSANTE], Working Group on EU Food Safety in Nutrition in 2050 and the joint DEFRA/UK Treasury Balance of Competence Review: Agriculture evaluating the relationship between the EU and the UK. She was a member of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society Group advising on the Implications of BREXIT for Agriculture in the UK.

Laurie Thomas: Managing Director, Vision Support Services, a leading supplier and distributor of luxury, specialist and performance textiles to global hospitality, retail, healthcare and commercial laundry sectors. As winners of the International Trade Club Awards 2016, they discussed their do’s and don’ts when trading internationally, including their top tips and their recent successes.

Mike Spicer: Director of Research and Economics, British Chamber of Commerce. Mike represents the BCC externally on business policy and matters relating to local economic development. Mike provided an update on the “Business Brexit Priorities” and what this means for local companies trading Internationally.
