Modernising Customs and Excise Law

The Government recognises the importance of engaging fully with individuals, practitioners, businesses and other organisations in the development and modernisation of customs and excise law

The link below will take you to the document which contains proposals for updating the provisions of the Customs and Excise Management Act 1979 (CEMA) and other customs and excise legislation. This will modernise, simplify and re-codify outdated customs and excise law in order to make it simpler for businesses to comply, whilst securing our borders and protecting the revenue.
 
HMRC are seeking views on areas of customs and excise legislation and practices that fall within the scope of this review.
 
HMRC are looking to hear from as wide a range of representatives as possible including anyone who is engaged in international trade and transport, the excise trades, bodies representing international air, sea and rail operators and groups representing passengers.
