The Cardboard Box Company package up support from The Lancashire Business Growth Fund

Whether it’s an industrial or retail packaging design, a promotional (POS) display or another innovative project, they are there to help.

The Cardboard Box Company based in Clayton-le-Moors design, print and manufactures corrugated board into just about every conceivable application.

They can design a package that fits perfectly around any product and always make sure when the product arrives at the end of its journey, the packaging provides a high-level of protection and looks outstanding.

Managing Director, Ken Shackleton explains, “We don’t believe in problems, only solutions. We discuss the customer’s needs and, with our in-house technical team of packaging experts, work out how best to find an economical solution to fit specific products and budgets. Our structural CAD designers can immediately create a number of prototype samples using our software tools, which provide the levels of protection you require. You can touch; feel and even test to ensure you and your own customers are delighted with the end result”.

The Cardboard Box Company’s growth has been rapidly underpinned by substantial year on year investment. There is a great focus on technical innovation and creativity when developing customer projects.

Ken Shackleton commented “In April of this year we purchased a second Bobst Die Cutter, the existing one was 13 years old and at that stage the plan was to refurbish the existing machine. The projected costs of this refurbishment alongside the performance of the new machine with its increased capabilities led to a rethink. We managed to negotiate the supplier would take the existing machine in Part Exchange against the purchase of another new machine, identical to the one taken in April, with all the enhanced capabilities and benefits it brings.”

We found the process of applying for funding was very easy to follow with great support from all the agencies involved.  We are extremely passionate about what we do here at The Cardboard Box Company and it is our intention to continue to improve our products and services to our customers, supported by our excellent workforce.”

The Cardboard Box Company applied for a grant from The Lancashire Business Growth Fund to assist and has been awarded £50,000 which alongside their own capital investment has led to the purchase and installation of the new machine.  Ken Shackleton says “The award of this grant ensured the acquisition of the machine and the creation of five new jobs could take place earlier and more smoothly then would have been the case.

The Regional Growth Fund-supported Lancashire Business Growth Fund is a programme offering capital investment grants and international trade support to businesses across the county.

The programme has been launched by the county’s two accredited Chambers of Commerce – East Lancashire and North & Western Lancashire – in partnership with Regenerate Pennine Lancashire and is intended to create 600 new jobs and safeguard a further 200.

Its key aim is to accelerate the creation of sustainable jobs by encouraging companies to bring forward growth projects on a bigger scale with a larger impact at a time when those jobs are most needed.

Businesses bidding for grants from the scheme can claim up to 20 per cent of the total project costs with the remaining costs leveraged from the bank or investment.

To be eligible for the programme, projects must involve the acquisition of new premises, infrastructure, machinery, expansion or another suitable form of capital investment.

Businesses are also required to demonstrate how many jobs will be created through the project in order to be accepted onto the scheme.
