Commodity Codes

Article Date: 11 November 2015

Q

  • One of our French customers insists that we put the Commodity Code number of each item on our sales invoice. Is this a legal requirement?

A

  • No it is not a legal requirement; however, in intra-EU trade many firms insist that the seller shows the commodity code of each item on the invoice as part of their procedures as it helps them to complete the Intrastat Arrival Supplementary Declarations (SDs). It’s therefore up to you whether or not you want their trade and will comply with their demands, but as your company has to also complete Despatch SDs under Intrastat I’d recommend doing it.
